More about Nicole
I have been committed to animals as a vegan for over 20 years. My life journey has taught me to look behind what things appear to be at face value.
My professional writing background and my passion for animal rights were destined to collide at some stage. These two important parts of my life have resulted in the formation of Tusk Books. My aim is to create a series of picture books that provide a glimpse into the lives of different animals. Each story will be captivating, but also informative and have unique and beautiful illustrations.
My first book, Ella is about a little elephant who works the streets with her keeper (mahout). Her heart is broken and she desperately wants to find her mum. After visiting Thailand and meeting elephants who had suffered terribly throughout their lives, I knew the first book had to tell their story.
In 2017, I took on the role of ACT Coordinator for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). This role has allowed me to connect with many of Canberra’s talented authors and illustrators. I was also awarded a scholarship to attend the 2018 SCBWI winter conference in February 2018. The scholarship was awarded to one author and one illustrator worldwide who are seen as being in the verge of a career breakthrough and who are contributing to their local SCBWI chapter.
I look forward to you joining me on my continuing journey.
